Hi friends, yes another capitol building has been visited. Montgomery is an interesting capital and city as well as state.
Spanish explorer, Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda, was the first European to see Alabama. Most of Alabama passed to the control of the United States after the American Revolution. In 1817 Alabama became a territory and a state in 1819.
In 1861, Alabama seceded from the United States and was the fourth state to become part of the Confederate States of America. President Jefferson Davis became the President of the Confederate States of America in February 1861. We stood between the columns, near the place where he was sworn in. The Capitol building is a National Historic Landmark.
In 1955, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.wanted to protest forced segregation. This was the beginning of the civil rights movement that would change the nation over the next few years.
Some famous people from Alabama are: Hank Aaron, Joe Louis, W.C. Handy, Mae Jemison, Helen Keller, Jesse Owens, and Hank Williams. There is so much history in Alabama, and not enough time or space to tell it.
Continue to have a great year!
