Hi everyone. Last Thursday, September 16, 2004, we were at Jefferson City, MO. The two great rivers that run through Missouri, are the Mississippi and the Missouri. Lewis and Clark started their exploration of the United States in Missouri. One of the most famous Missourians was Mark Twain. His real name was Samuel Clemens.

Mark Twain was a river term meaning two fathoms," or safe enough for a riverboat. As part of the Missouri Compromise, Missouri entered the Union as a slave state and Kansas as a free state in 1821. The nickname for Missouri is, "Show Me State." The state animal is the mule. Have a great year everyone!
